Here is an example of the service we provide with reference to New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) and HSG47 for locating underground apparatus. This example is on one of our live projects on behalf of our client, Murphy Group:

Compliance with NRSWA:

  1. Barriers: The site barriers are properly placed, ensuring that pedestrian and vehicular access around the work area is controlled in accordance with safety guidelines. The barriers are continuous and secure, which is a key requirement under NRSWA for preventing unauthorised access and ensuring public safety.
  2. Signage: The signage displayed seems to be clearly visible, providing adequate warnings and information to road users and pedestrians. Compliance with NRSWA is evident, as the signs are placed at the appropriate distances and orientations to guide traffic and prevent confusion, minimising disruption to the flow of traffic.
  3. Sandbags: The sandbags used to secure both barriers and signage ensure that these elements remain in position, even in adverse weather conditions. This demonstrates good practice in securing TM elements, preventing movement or collapse that could endanger road users or workers.

In conjunction with our bespoke TM plans, these measures illustrate an organised and compliant approach to managing street works, fulfilling the requirements laid out under NRSWA. The correct use of barriers, signage, and sandbags enhances the safety and efficiency of the works being carried out, minimising risks to the public and maintaining regulatory standards.

Compliance with HSG47:

  • Risk Management: The process shown in the photos reflects the guidance under HSG47 for safely locating underground services, including assessing the risks associated with underground apparatus.
  • Mark-Up Process: The use of appropriate detection methods, combined with surface marking, demonstrates adherence to HSG47’s recommendations for identifying potential hazards before any excavation work is undertaken

OPUS  is committed to both NRSWA and HSG47 regulations, ensuring that the risks associated with underground utilities are minimised, and the safety of the public and workers is maintained throughout all of our projects.
