Overview
We are seeking a capable and commercially minded Quantity Surveyor to join our team and support the Commercial Manager in driving efficiency, cost control, and regional performance across our client portfolio. In this role, you will manage all financial, commercial, and contractual aspects of projects, ensuring strong margin performance and informed decision-making. You will play a key role in identifying, recording, and tracking both risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Financial Management
- Oversee and monitor project costs, including weekly Control of Cost Reports
- Internal commercial reporting P&L and CVR reporting.
- Review contract documents and provide guidance on commercial and contractual issues.
- Carry out contract administration duties, including managing change processes and maintaining all associated registers.
- Manage cash flow forecasting and track financial progress.
- Prepare and review commercial forecasts, Project Finance Reports.
- Prepare valuations and applications for payment, ensuring all supporting documentation is complete, accurate, and fully compliant with contractual requirements.
Change, Risk & Value Management
- Manage the change control process, including identification, evaluation, and valuation of variations and compensation events.
- Track project changes, variations, and contractual notices.
- Identifying commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change
Subcontract Management
- Subcontract procurement, including preparing enquiry documents, assessing quotations, and negotiating subcontract terms.
- Raise subcontract orders, manage forecasting, and administer subcontract valuations, invoices, payments, and final account agreements.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Prepare and submit interim valuations and payment applications and agree final accounts with clients.
- Attend client meetings, including progress reviews, commercial discussions, and risk workshops.
- Support operational teams with day-to-day commercial and contractual matters.
- Assist with tendering activities, pricing exercises, and cash recovery with Credit Control.
Experience and Qualifications
- A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (RICS-accredited preferred but not essential).
- Experience within the utilities sector is advantageous.
- Strong working knowledge of standard forms of contract, with NEC experience preferred.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative working approach.
- High attention to detail and a logical, methodical mindset.
