Earlier this year our Technical Compliance Team embarked on a development programme for our first cohort of jointing apprentices.
Our 4 adult apprentices, joined us with life experiences & adult responsibilities with a desire to learn a new trade in jointing, which is extremely important for succession planning in our business.
The apprentices have completed their first steps into their jointing careers by recently passing their COMP safety rules, this following a number of weeks learning about our business, why we carry out the works we do and visiting our live sites to see how all elements of our operation work.
This programme is in conjunction with the SP Energy Networks training school in Rhyl, North Wales, where they are undertaking a 5-week jointing appreciation course.
We’re delighted with their progress so far, and it’s really pleasing to see the development; both technically & with industry awareness.
Here they are pictured with:-

Luke Holden, Technical Compliance Mgr,
&, Lewis Cheetham, Jointing Supervisor.
Thomas Walsh said “Investing in the development of the apprentices, will strengthen their technical abilities and keep them motivated, with a keen desire to continue to operate for Opus Utility Solutions. In turn, it will strengthen our ability to perform at the highest standards for our clients. A big thank you to Luke Holden who is instrumental in this process, and a great mentor, not only for our apprentices, but also for Lewis & our current jointing workforce”.
Andy Churchman, our Technical Transformation Lead said “Opus’ passion to grow & develop their people is refreshing to see. This kind of investment underpins a business’ ability to retain staff & continually improve as an organisation. Both the apprentices & existing staff are developing which will hopefully put Opus in a strong position in the market for years to come”.
